Chinese Translation on side bar items
After selected Simplified or Traditional Chinese Version of the pages, side bar will change into also. However,I discovered some translation error on Transditional Chinese Version. For Volunteer, it is seldom to be translated as "志工". More often one is "志願者" or "義工". May you help me to modify it? (I'm sorry for my poor English)--Wong128hk 04:42, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed, thanks. :-) Also, you're English is great too! Cbrown1023 talk 16:41, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Template proposal
Casey, don't you think that we could have a template for unfinished translations stating something like "This page is currently under translation [...] you may volunteer and help [...]. The original language of this page, for reference, is [language]"? This way we get dos pájaros de un tiro: first the usual Wikipedia warning about work in progress, plus an explicit invitation to contribute. On the other hand, by putting clear the "native" language of the article (say, Local information, that comes from Local information/es), we avoid dragging a potential English mistranslation (or any other) into versions derived from it. I mean, if for example La Plata (a city) gets translated as Silver, the person working on a chinese translation will have clear that it is the Spanish version to which he may contrast a final revision. ¿Se entiende? Si no lo pongo en castellano :P. I had some issues to deal with today and so wasn't able to continue with the visual standarization and make the announcements we've talked about. Hope we can have this done with Ivana between today and tomorrow. --Galio 07:04, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- Y si tenés un ratito mirá acá, el mismo problema con las columnas. Saludos, Galio 08:00, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- re: ¨native¨... La problema es, muchas de los traductores no hablan español y sólo hablan inglés (o comprenden más o menos bien...). Entonces, the English translations should be reviewed for accuracy by one of you guys (native Spanish speakers) before translation begins. Also, I don´t expect many of the pages to have a source completely in Spanish... creo que vamos a crear las paginas en los dos idiomas (at the same time), so this shouldn´t be an issue. Also, we can mention the original language on the translation template of the page, if needed.
- re: the visual standardization/announcent: está bien, comprendo que necesitas hacer lo que necesitas hacer
- re: las columnas: it looks like you did fine ;-)
- re: "being translated": creo que no la necesitamos porque ellos saben que es un wiki y pueden contrubir (también hay ¨translate/traducir¨), pero si quieres una plantilla, ¡puedes tenerla! :)

Italics for Chinese
That's OK for Chinese being italic. It has no special restrictions on this aspect. In other words, it has no problems on whether italic or not. :-) --J.Wong 09:07, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- Others have told me that it's difficult to read and that it's really rare. :-( For Chinese, we normally let the text be prettier and without italics. ;P However, you're free to do whichever you prefer. Cbrown1023 talk 21:53, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, you are right and one of the readers (right?), who I should considerate to. :-)
- And thank you for User:wong128hk/Translations which is certainly useful.--J.Wong 10:57, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- :D The only problem is that sometimes it's slow to update... (caching issues). If it is, try doing a null edit (just hit edit then save) to the page. Cbrown1023 talk 21:42, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

A little question
Can we write "published" to "Template:Translation" pages? or do we have to write "ready" and you change it into "published" after you check it? I wrote "published" when im sure about translation but I saw on most "Template:Translation" pages that it happens like the second way, and im in trouble now.--Onur Kayabaşı message 15:20, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
- As long as you do everything correctly (add the language category to the page, link it form the other languages bar, etc.), then you can put published. If you don't do those things, you can put "ready" and I will do them. :-) The template is taken from Meta-Wiki where it's not possible to publish things yourself. It's a different case on this wiki. Sidebar
Translations
Hi
Is there like a page or a category where I can find the pages that still needs to be translated?
Best regards, Abigor 21:51, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- T. :-) Of course the sidebar at the left is a good place to start too. Cbrown1023 talk 22:48, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
ia.wiki
You wrote: "the flag is for your location, not your language; I think Almafeta is from the US"
I thought the codes there were for the wiki code for the wiki you'd be representing. Almafeta 03:04, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Nope, it's for country because most wikis do not have flags (that would add too much confusion) and it's a global even for everyone, so no one really "represents" a project (they're just there as themselves). :-) Cbrown1023 talk 20:22, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Coördination
Is there some reason why you dislike the spelling "coördination" with the diaeresis? That and "co-ordination" are perfectly valid ways of correcting the ugly spelling "coordination" which fails to account for the "oo" being a siphthong. Eclecticology 04:50, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- I assumed that was a typo, actually. (In addition to that, it's pretty unlikely that someone would type that in a search bar, also see Wiktionary.) I don't really care either way though... so feel free to revert if you feel strongly a certain way. Cbrown1023 talk 21:22, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
