Abstract | ||
We initially built a mobile access to Wikipedia, requiring only speech and SMS capability from phone devices. Testing of the free and open MobilED was done at schools in South Africa in 2006. Afterwards we reasoned that our platform may actually be better suited to provide community created news and stories for the community itself. In theory of social ties, calling into a phone service and listening to local news, event and 'classified' announcements is both about sharing stories with strong ties and reaching out to weak ties. We explore the social possibilities and limitations of audio wikis and the scenarios where audio wikis could be used. | ||
